Hi There! Just discovered your blogs thanks to you discovering mine and I’m equally delighted, I can assure you! A fellow photo spirit indeed!

So I reckon this is ‘L’homme aux semelles devant’ by Jean-Robert Ipoustéguy on the boulevard Henri IV in the 4th.

Apparently (so my sources tell me 😉 it was commanded by François Mitterrand as a hommage to Rimbaud who was nicknamed ‘l’homme aux semelles de vent’ by the poet Verlaine. So there’s a pretty big play on words and on the eyes with the body being literally chopped in two so that his soles can be in front of him, as it were!

    I’ll be back!

    • Hi Sab!

And we have a winner! The sculpture indeed is of French poet Arthur Rimbaud and is called “L’homme aux semelles devant” by Jean-Robert Ipoustéguy (which is a mouthful!). Bonus points are awarded because you picked up on the pun of the title! As you mentioned, Verlaine called Rimbaud “L’homme aux semelles de vent” (The man with his soles in the wind) and the title of this piece is “L’homme aux semelles devant” (The man with his soles in front). Here then is your coveted Chupa Chups badge, a double because you answered both questions!

      Thanks for playing!

      See you in the streets,

      Paris Paul
