Where Is It Wednesday? 2011-04-27

Paris By Cell Phone: April 27, 2011: Where Is It Wednesday?

First, to kick this off, no one was able to solve last week’s Where Is It Wednesday so let’s take care of old business and resolve that one before moving on to today’s, shall we?

This was the photo:

And the answer is…Place de la Concorde. This is a memorial in the wall that parallels the rue de Rivoli, just at the entrance to the Métro station Concorde. It’s a memorial to the people killed at the Place de la Concorde during the liberation of Paris from the Nazis in August, 1944. Sorry! Didn’t mean to be so tricky…

Hopefully this week’s will be easier for you.

Where is this?

First answer in the comment section wins a coveted Chupa Chups badge (with even better prizes for repeat winners)!

“basement” of the Louvre? Walls of the original fortress, I think…?

    • Exactly! It’s going on midnight here, but I’ll post your prize tomorrow. Thanks for playing, m’dear, and congrats on the huge victory and the coveted virtual prizes that await.

    • Congratulations, BJ!

You were indeed right, the photo is of the foundations of a fortress wall dating back to Philippe Auguste in the 13th century. As you mention, the portion in the photo is to be found in the Carrousel de Louvre, or the “basement” if you prefer. 😉

If memory serves, this is your third victory so here’s your coveted Chupa Chups badge!
